Mill Stream Loft
A romantic hideaway apartment for two, surrounded by glorious Somerset countryside.
You know that feeling when sometimes you just want to get away for a few days as a couple? Nothing complicated, but preferably to somewhere that is so beautifully decorated and equipped that you can feel at home almost immediately? It’s always nice too if you can also find somewhere surrounded by lovely countryside, and maybe with a pub close by. Well, this stunning first floor studio apartment, situated in the heart of rural south Somerset, fits the bill perfectly. It’s very peaceful and rural, yet extremely easy to get to, and is furnished as a bright, stylish and comfy home-from-home that frankly you won’t want to leave.
Located just a mile or so south of Ilminster, the Loft sits in the grounds of the house of local couple Karen and Richard, above their collection of classic cars. It’s a classic romantic hideaway for two. It faces away from the main house and is perfectly peaceful and secluded, with a balcony off the main living space that looks out on pure unadulterated countryside views. A spacious studio apartment where nothing has been overlooked, it’s furnished with a high degree of contemporary flair and style but is very cosy too. There’s an open-plan living area with a very well-equipped kitchen, a leather sofa and a reclining armchair and a dining table. Tucked away around a corner, there’s a comfortable king-size bed and en-suite shower-room.
It’s warm in winter, cool in summer, has its own parking, wifi, there’s a TV and DVD player, and the kitchen is equipped with dishwasher and fridge, hob, oven, microwave so you can eat in or make the short mile or so walk to the nearby village pub, The New Inn, a beamed old place where they serve good food and local brews (this includes cider from the nearby Perry Cider Mill which itself is open for visits). There are plenty of other nice walks in the area around – the Bartons can advise – plus it’s just a five-minute stroll into Ilminster, with its handsome market square and shops and restaurants. And, further afield, the Blackdown Hills AONB is home to lots more enticing walks. All in all it’s just the thing for a sneaky romantic countryside break!
